Qui a créé la Farce de Maître Pathelin ? Dans quel contexte ? Où ? Quand? Comment? Pourquoi ? Après trente ans d'enquête et de publications, Bruno Roy livre ses conclusions : l'auteur du Pathelin est Triboulet, premier du nom, le fou du roi René. Le Pathelin, loin d'avoir été conçu comme une farce, serait plutôt une sorte de revue de personnages et d'événements associés à la cour angevine du roi René durant les années 1450. Selon Bruno Roy, l'intrigue de la pièce repose sur un fait divers conservé dans la mémoire familiale des Triboulet de Provence. Quant au personnage de Josseaume le Drapier, il renvoie à Guillaume Josseaume, le réformateur franciscain haut en couleur, familier de la cour de René d'Anjou.
